Introduction
The anthropology of gambling
includes the comparative analysis of gambling in cultures of the past
and present as well as in-depth studies, based on participant
observation, of gambling in particular settings. From an anthropological
perspective gambling emerges as an exchange system connected with other
reciprocal systems in society and as an activity sustained by cultural
imagery and symbolic significances.
OnGambling.org
is a web domain intended to provide facts and knowledge on gambling as
well as information on gambling research. Currently, the OnGambling.org website presents anthropological
research on gambling conducted by Associate Professor Per Binde at Göteborg University.
